Recently, the subject of blogs and blogging came up, and Ashley suggested off-hand that PDA buy the optional package which adds a blogging feature to the site. This package isn't too expensive ($50), but it does cost enough that I'd rather not spend it if it's not going to get used. Up until now, I've just figured that it'd be one of those fluff features that gets a bit of attention for a few days, then lost on the wayside. However, others seem to have the feel that this gives people an opportunity to share things on the PDA community focused on their active interests, without derailing other threads about it. You can set areas of your blogs as invitation-only, if you're worried about sharing with the wrong people.

If enough people would like to have it, then I would be happy to add it in. This thread has a poll in it (and those of you reading on the front page should click "Read More" to find it). Vote "yes" if you want to have a PDA blog to write on, "no" if you do not. Truthfully, I don't expect most people would vote "yes," so it's more a question of if a good number of people actually vote "yes" rather than a majority rules sort of a deal. Please only vote "yes" if you feel like you'd actually use the feature. I'm not asking for a contract inked in blood here, but if you vote "yes," my hope is that you'll at least try to make the effort for a little bit once I put it in.

I voted 'Yes', but upon more thought I realise that I'd not actively use it. I've tried before, poorly, and failed. If I ever genuinely wanted a blog, I'd find somewhere else to do it I think.

Nope. We host separate from Invision, so this is a one-time fee for us.

I voted yes, I think I would make genuinely blog updates biweekly/monthly since its the only internet community I've ever known/lurked for so long.

I have to say that I'm genuinely surprised by the number of votes supporting the idea.

I voted no. I think it would fall out of use and be ignored. I also think it would be abused and difficult to moderate; we don't need a PDA Goatse gallery or other similar links. I haven't seen the mod control setup for the blog however, so that may not be as big an issue as I think.

i voted no because the more that vote yes, will further the chances of seeing a blog of useless rants and illinformed typists.
i know noone cares of my opinions but i do love to flood for no reason.

i am also surprised at the all the yes votes. I want to change mine, so I can be included into the to ppl that said yes and will never look at it after day3, similar to the chat room that is ALWAYS empty

For me, any chat room not inside gaming, seems barbaric.

when i was 12-13, i was a regular chatter with mirc, learning the system and how to's kick bans, right your own scripts. all that was fun for a bit. The chat room's I was associated with had on average 30-60 people logging on around the same time, every night. We would be from all across the globe, but very connected. I even vacationed in Cali with a fellow chat room buddy I met through mirc. Its how I learned to surf!. Then I noticed, as online games became apparent, UO/nexus/darkages/everquest, all the chatters just found a game to chat in and build their community. Chat rooms are so nostalgic to me now. Not sure if there are active chat rooms anymore. Possibly yahoo, just seems so outdated.

I voted no, I doubt anyone will read these blogs. It will probably not be used as much as it seems and in all honesty who would read people's blogs from PDA. No offense.

Usually if I'm reading a blog, its either something like the Devteam Blog for the iPhone, or Capcom's blogs. I usually don't read the no-name ones, but that's just me.
