if I ran a private server I would put popular areas on seperate servers to save on lag and processing power needed. Private servers usually aren't on state of the art computers since the person hosting would normally not be making any money on it.

so you'd be running multiple private servers?? do you know how much that would cost provided you have NO income from this game you'd be hosting??

edit:
keep in mind, your road runner internet isn't capable of hosting a somewhat decent server..

whether he was replying to you or not, that point still stands. are you going to be dishing out money for a decent server that can handle lots of people, knowing you won't be getting any money from it?

Notice I put the word "IF" meaning that in a perfect world, where I had the time, money, and paitence, I would know how to run a private server correctly and for it to handle high amounts of traffic, except of course for the actual private server software needed.


If I had said software, I would use it on my lan and probably wouldn't open it up for external connections because I know what would be required to run it like that and do it well, and I don't see how all that work would benefit me.

Networking on large scales is what I do for a living, please don't lecture me on what can run on what.

I bet........ based off info of the NexusTk server, and knowing that my terminal server here at work, which also runs at least 5 large mail servers, and our phone system server is a piece of [filtered] and does just fine. I know for a fact that it's not hard to run a server, it SUPRISINGLY doesn't take a terrible amount of bandwidth.
